Today’s woman crush #womeninspire is none other than multiple award-winning make-up artist and beauty entrepreneur, Valerie Lawson.

Valerie and I have never met but a sister, also called Valerie, tipped her off as an exceptional woman. I love it when women recommend other women, so I immediately proceeded to learn more about her and she is such an inspiration.

Valerie began her journey in the beauty industry, some ten years ago while in business school at the university. What started as a hobby and the love for art soon transitioned into a full-time business. From ‘painting faces’ as it was then called, of her friends and aunties, Valerie began to gain enormous compliments for her great artistic skills. This led her to develop a strategy to take make-up on as a profession.

With knowledge from the business school in one hand and her passion for the art of make-up in another, Valerie was determined to apply all that she had learnt to make this new-found interest, a thriving business.

After a few years garnering experience in the field, Valerie took a step further not only to launch her very own set of make-up brushes and tools under the CVL Beauty brand, but to expand her growing brand with a product line.

Today Valerie is not only the CEO of Contours By Valerie Lawson (CVL) Beauty, a beauty salon which also serves as a makeup studio with skin care, microblading and lash extension services but has also been appointed the Artistic Director for Maybelline NY, Ghana, a position that makes her the first ever Ghanaian to occupy the seat. At Maybelline, she is tasked with the responsibility to coordinate all visual representation of make-up products produced under Maybelline for editorial shoots and commercials.

It is interesting to note that Valerie has also gone ahead to take on mentorship and coaching to share her knowledge with the world by holding master classes for individuals/brands interested in learning the art of make-up.

Valerie Lawson is now a household name in the beauty industry in Ghana having worked with the likes of Her Excellency, the Second Lady of Ghana, Samira Bawumia. She has a wide clientele base, ranging from personal to corporate brands, to bridal make-up and that of celebrities. Her enviable reputation has earned her several awards for her contribution to enhancing the beauty industry.

She was adjudged best make-up artist at the 2019 Ghana Make-Up Awards and Make-up Artist of the Year at the 2017 Glitz Style Awards. She was recently adjudged Most Outstanding Female in Make-up Artistry at the 6th Feminine Ghana Achievement Awards 2020.

Today I celebrate you, Valerie! Thank you for following your passion through and through and for mentoring women to follow after you! Thank you for your contribution to the beauty industry! Thank you for impacting the world with your creative abilities! Thank you for changing the narrative on the potential of women! Thank you! Thank you for being a woman who inspires! #womeninspire #womancrushwednesday.
